“My approach to teaching is to provide students with the opportunity to learn math through discovery.”
Geeta Vir taught for six years at Patchogue-Medford High School on Long Island before coming to Poly in 2019 to teach Middle School math. Geeta’s mother, also a math teacher, inspired her love of the subject by bringing math to life. Geeta didn’t realize she was doing math games while counting on the swings or eating breakfast. By the age of 10, Geeta was teaching her cousins to read and do math. She attended St. Joseph’s College, where she had the pleasure of having Dr. Maria DiCarlo, now Poly’s Math Department Chair, as a professor. In 2022, Geeta turned her talents to teaching Upper School students. She continues to take inspiration from her mother’s lesson plans and uses games and puzzles to give her students the opportunity to explore and discover math for themselves.
